LOVE YOUR CLOTHES EVENT

On 27th November, SCPR hosted a Fashion Salvage event on behalf of WRAP (the Waste & Resources Action Programme) for its Love Your Clothes (LYC) campaign. The aim was to raise awareness of the value of clothes and to shine a spotlight on the amount of good clothes hiding at the back of our wardrobes.

To promote the event and the LYC campaign, we secured interview time for WRAP’s Textile Communications Manager Ali Moore on London Live’s Breakfast Show yesterday morning.

Invitations were sent to London-based fashion bloggers, industry and LCF students.  They were invited to visit the Britannia Mill in Canning Town, the largest textile recycling centre in London.  Guests such as Susie Lau of Style Bubble and Arianna Cadwallader (from C4’s This Old Thing: Vintage Clothes Show) were given an opportunity to explore the vast array of clothing received by the site in just one day and unearth garments which could be re-styled to create a new-season party look.

Everyone entered into the spirit of the occasion and the evening was a great success. Upcycling style expert Emma Slade of backofthewardrobe.com was on hand to offer advice and judge her pick of the outfits pulled on the night.  Barley Massey of Fabrications in Broadway Market brought her sewing machine along and was offering alterations and customisation of the pieces.

Attendees were able to take away their finds and give a home to pieces that were unwanted by others.  The outfits of the evening (chosen by Emma) were created by Lisa Snider, Mallory Giardino and Ilishio Lovejoy.
